Elger Bay Elementary PTA

The mission of the Elger Bay Elementary Garden is to teach youth and community members about the importance and benefits of gardening, inspire connections with nature, and promote healthy choices with fresh food.

Our vision is to have established school gardens throughout the Stanwood-Camano community that will provide healthy food and learning opportunities for youth and community.  We encourage local food production and inspire hope through our school garden program.

The Elger Bay Elementary Garden was launched by the Elger Bay Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the summer of 2024.  Because of the generosity of community organizations and businesses, along with the hard work of our committed volunteers, we transformed a former playground into a productive garden in less than a year.  Our garden education program started in the spring of 2025.  We design grade-appropriate activities for classes that support academic objectives while encouraging students to investigate, problem-solve, and actively explore.  We also started an after-school garden club with spring and fall sessions.  Students dig deeper into horticulture, learn gardening techniques, and participate in garden art activities.  Future goals include developing a produce donation program, incorporating culinary activities into lessons, and strengthening community cohesion by promoting garden gatherings in partnership with local organizations.

Our garden program has a strong foundation of support because the Stanwood-Camano community has stepped forward and shown their commitment to our youth.  We look forward to continued growth in collaboration with the community to provide positive experiences for youth and promote local, fresh food.
