Sound Water Stewards are your neighbors in Stanwood and Camano Island who care about the shorelines and waters that surround our communities. Stewards work to protect and preserve the Salish Sea through science, education and stewardship. We believe that the more you know, the more you care and the more you do.

The More You Know

Education is at the heart of everything we do. This year, nearly 325 people joined us for Sound Water University, our flagship event, themed “The Power of Place: Voices for the Salish Sea.” With your help, we’re inspiring more people than ever to care deeply for our precious marine environment. We also welcomed 36 new Stewards to our ranks—part of nearly 300 trained since 2016—who are now actively engaged in learning and leading.

The More You Care

As other organizations and government agencies fall away, we’re still here after 36 years.  Your generosity makes this work possible. Every dollar given fuels volunteer power, scientific research, and community engagement. Because you care, we can keep educating, training, and mobilizing people to take action.

The More You Do

This year alone, dozens of Stewards logged thousands of volunteer hours. Together we:

  • Conducted 14 science projects and 7 stewardship programs.
  • Cleaned beaches, removed derelict fishing gear, and collected discarded fishing line.
  • Monitored shorelines for invasive European Green Crabs.
  • Partnered with Washington State Parks, libraries, classrooms, and restoration sites to educate and inspire.
  • Even developed a mobile dark-tent so people could experience the wonder of bioluminescence.

And this fall, we welcomed Dr. Florian Graner—marine biologist and acclaimed filmmaker—as our new Executive Director. His expertise and passion are already energizing our work, and with your support, we can expand our impact even further.

But challenges remain. Climate change, declining salmon runs, and ecosystem threats demand urgent action. That’s why we need you now more than ever.

Your donation today will directly support Camano Island-Stanwood Stewards and amplify education, expand stewardship, and strengthen science-based protection of our shorelines. Please give generously!
